Why did the Nahimic companion install on my PC?
If your PC was shipped with the Nahimic audio driver pre-installed, a recent update to the driver added the companion app to provide a user interface for the driver and allow you to add additional Nahimic features. In the past, if your PC was using the Nahimic audio driver to optimize sound quality, there was no user interface letting you know when it was being updated or used. The companion app is there to let you know the version and to help you maintain your drivers.

What happens if I uninstall Nahimic audio driver?
If you uninstall the Nahimic audio driver:
- Sound quality may noticeably decline.
- The volume you experience may not be as loud as with the driver installed.
- The speakers may begin buzzing or vibrating at when listening at higher volumes.
- It is possible to damage the speakers when listening at a high volume.
- You will lose all the additional features included with the Nahimic application. (EQ, Surround Sound, Bass boost, Treble boost…)

[NEW] Incompatibility issues between Nahimic and third party applications or games
You have an incompatibility issue with Nahimic and your application/game is crashing?
Since Nahimic v1.4.14 we have implemented a new setting call "Sound Tracker Engine". Let it disabled to avoid any conflict between Nahimic and other programs.
1. Go in the Settings page
2. Disable the Sound Tracker Engine
Now you will avoid any incompatibility issue with other running application/game.
Therefore, the Sound Tracker feature is unusable.

What will happen in Nahimic's UI if I change the default devices in Windows Audio settings panel?
Nahimic’s UI will adapt to the new default device.

I plugged in an external sound card and Nahimic doesn’t support it. Why?
External sound cards have their own drivers, audio processing and software which are completely independent of Nahimic.

Nahimic’s effects don’t seem to work on the S/PDIF and Optical devices I plugin. Why ?
S/PDIF and Optical devices are not supported by Nahimic because they are often used for specific audio experiences that we do not want to affect.
If you plug one in, your driver will detect them, but Nahimic’s UI will remain disabled on audio page to show that Nahimic’s effects won’t be applied either to the S/PDIF or to the Optical.
To choose a Nahimic compatible device, you can click on the disabled audio and / or microphone pages: a message will then appear, inviting you to choose an available and compatible device.

What is the Windows® device manager option “Show Disconnected Devices” for?
This option allows to display all of the devices your hardware can support.

My device doesn’t appear in the Windows® device manager. How do I make it appear?
If you device does not appear, first, make sure your device is properly plugged into your computer and is properly installed.
If your device still does not appear, it may have been disabled and hidden in the Windows® device manager.
To make it appear again in your device list, just right-click on the Windows® device manager window (in the Playback or Recording tab, depending on the device you are interested in) and then select “Show Disabled Device”.

How can I set a device as the default one?
So as to set a device as the default one, go to the Windows® device manager, select the tab you are interested in (Playback or Recording) and then, right-click on the device you want to set as the default, and click on “Set as Default Device”.

What is Windows® device manager and how do I access it?
Windows® device manager is the control window which shows the complete list of playback and recording devices on your computer. This window also allows you to enable, disable or set your playback and recording devices as the default. Here is the process to access it: 1 - On your Windows® taskbar, right-click on the volume icon. 2 - Click on Playback devices or Recording devices depending on what you are interested in. Playback devices are for audio devices, like speakers or headphones. Recording devices are capture devices, like microphones. And there you have it–you just accessed the Windows® device manager.

What is a default device?
The default device (playback and/or recording) selected in Windows® device manager is the device that allows you to hear or capture sound.

What is supposed to happen if I change the Music profile settings, then click on the Shooter profile, and then come back to the Music profile?
If you change the Music profile settings, choose a different profile and go back on Music profile, the changes will be saved and you will find the Music profile settings as you left them.

How can I change Nahimic's language?
You can change the language in the preferences window (English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Portuguese or Polish). The default language is the language of your OS.
